RESIDENCE PERMIT FOR STUDENTS IN HIGHER EDUCATION

(ARTICLE 91, PARAGRAPH 1 OF THE REPSAE (LEGAL FRAMEWORK ON THE ENTRY, PERMANENCE, EXIT AND REMOVAL OF FOREIGNERS FROM NATIONAL TERRITORY), IN CONJUNCTION WITH ARTICLE 57, PARAGRAPHS 1 AND 2 OF THE REGULATORY DECREE NUMBER 2/2013)




DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:
  • Application delivered personally, (on a standard form) signed by the applicant (where the applicant is either a minor or legally disabled person the form shall be signed by his / her legal representative)
  • Two recent, identical photographs, in colour with blank background, and easily identifiable, except in SIGAP Service Bureaus
  • Passport or any other valid travel document
  • Valid residence visa
  • Evidence of sufficient means of subsistence, as per the provisions of Order number 1563/2007, of 11/12
  • Evidence that the applicant has adequate accommodation
  • Permission for checking criminal records (see standard form) - (except people under 16 years old)
  • Written evidence that the applicant has enrolled in a teaching institution
  • Written evidence that the applicant has paid the tuition fees, where applicable
  • Health insurance or evidence of being covered by the National Health Service
Notes:
  1. The Residence Permit is valid for a period of one year, except if the duration of the study plan is less than one year, in which case the Residence Permit shall have the necessary validity to cover the period of the study plan
  2. The obligation to submit the mentioned documentary evidence is waived in cases where the applicant is the beneficiary of a scholarship awarded by the Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua, I.P., since this entity shall convey to SEF all information relevant to the issuance of the Residence Permit
  3. Outside study time, and subject to the rules and conditions applicable to the relevant activity in Portugal, students shall be entitled to work under employment contract, after being authorised by SEF
  4. O The holder of a Residence Permit for study may also apply to conduct research work, to teach in higher education institution, or to conduct a highly qualified professional activity, provided he / she holds the necessary conditions set out in Article 58, paragraph 2 of the Regulatory Decree Number 2/2013
  5. Fees
